The Sports Authority Cherry Creek Sneak Partners with Kempe Foundation for the Second Year and Opens Event Registration

For the second year in a row, The Kempe Foundation for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect, is the charity partner for the 29th annual Sports Authority Cherry Creek Sneak on May 1, 2011, giving racers and non-participants the opportunity to help support the foundation through pledges and donations.

The Sneak, which opened registration on December 15, offers several different levels of run/walk races including a 5-mile run/walk, 3.1-mile (5k) run/walk, 1-mile sprint, and a ½ mile Kids’ Fun Run.  The cost to register for the Sneak is $30 for adults, $15 for youth ages 17 and under, $15 for seniors ages 60 and over, and $80 for a Family Four-Pack consisting of two adults and two children.  These registration prices will increase after January 3, 2011.

To register, participants may visit

The first Sneak race will begin at 8 a.m. at the intersection of Steele and Ellsworth. The post-race block party takes place along First Avenue in the heart of Cherry Creek.  The event features sponsor and vendor booths, a live band, a beer garden, an inflatable slide and obstacle course, as well as an expo and Rocky Mountain Hospital For Children Fun Zone for kids.  Over 25,000 people are expected to attend, including race participants, friends, families and spectators.

Kempe’s Sneak partnership represents the culmination of the month-long “April Is Child Abuse Prevention Month” awareness campaign, which promotes the role that everyone can help play in keeping Colorado’s children safe.

The Kempe Foundation benefits from the Sports Authority Cherry Creek Sneak through pledges and donations, which are above and beyond the race registration fee.

“Last year, we raised over $27,000 in donations and pledges and our goal for 2011 is to raise $75,000,” said Jon Kruljac, The Kempe Foundation Board Chair. “These donations and pledges help give abused and neglected children a chance at regaining their childhood.  We encourage racers and non-racers to help give hope to abused and neglected children.”
