Last Friday, I had the opportunity to be one of the more than 220 hikers during the 5th Annual IP5280’s Climbing for Kids event. We arrived at the base of Mount Bierstadt very early, before 6 a.m. The morning started off dark and cold, and the air quickly grew very thin, but nothing could dampen the spirits of the people who arrived ready to tackle a 14er. The determination and excitement of the climbers was inspiring. Over and over again, I heard people say that they were climbing for the kids.
The views of surrounding mountains along the climb and the crystal clear sky at the top made every minute of the trek worth it. Despite the wind, I could not have asked for a better day to be outside in Colorado.
As the weary group of hikers reconvened at The Mellow Mushroom in the afternoon, we all celebrated our accomplishment and knew we had done something great for two very deserving causes.
While the event itself may now be over, the fundraising efforts will continue through the end of August. If you would like to contribute to the Climb, click here.
